Dance Styles
Mummy & Me
Mummy & Me classes offer the opportunity for children as young as 2 years old the chance to dance.
Mummy & Me class focus on developing gross motor skills with weekly themes & props to stimulate learning.
Mummy & Me classes also develop social skills of ‘taking turns’ , ‘sharing’ and enable friendships to flourish.
Parents are welcome to assist studets within these classes as much or as little as required by the dancer. When dancer is confident parents are able to sit back and watch their child’s love of dance grow.
Beat Babies
Beat Babies is an introduction to dance for children aged 3-5 years old. It combines different styles of dance including jazz, tap and ballet. Beat Babies is a structured class that provides the fundamental movements of all dance genres, develops gross motor skills and students creativity.
Beat Babies use a variety of Props and instruments to learn about musicality and fine motor skills.
Cheer Babies
Cheer Babies offers students aged 3-5 years the opportunity to safely develop basic cheerleading skills at an age appropriate level and activities.
Students learn basic tumble skills as well as jump techniques, stunts & Dance.
A great class for active pre-schoolers while learning Gross motor skills using safety equipment & activities that stimulate learning.
Ballet
Classical Ballet is the foundation of all great dancers. Classical Ballet students study grade work from the B.B.O (British Ballet Organisation) syllabus and regularly participate in exams, Advanced Associcate Programs as well as opportunity to participate in National Dance Week.
Students are recommended to attend ballet classes to develop technique, strength and flexibility that will assist their future in all genres of dance.
Hip Hop
With hip-hop taking the world by storm, it is exciting for our young dancers to keep up with the dynamic styles and spirit of funk and street dance. Hip hop students learn many aspects of hip hop dancing from ‘crumping’ and ‘popping’ to ‘break’ and other tricks. Hip hop is a fun, high energy class that provides students with all the latest hip hop moves.
A specialised boys class is offered to accommodate the different strengths of boys and girls.
Hip hop classes are offered to students 5 years and older at both recreational & competitive levels.
Jazz
Jazz is our most popular dance class. Jazz students learn a variety of styles within their classes including; Funk, Cabaret, and traditional jazz techniques.
Jazz classes at Attitude Dance Centre have a focus on good jazz technique which includes strength and flexibility of the whole body including the core. A great class to develop flexibility and fitness while having fun to all the latest music. This class is offered for students of school age at recreational and competitive levels.
Acro
Acro is one of the fastest growing styles. Students learn flexibility & tumbling skills that help develop the repetoire of dance routines.
Under the guidance of fully qualified teachers students use safety equipment and spotters to learn skills including handstands, walkovers, aerials and partner lifts.
Musical Theatre
Act, Sing & Dance!
Musical Theatre classes offer students the opportunity to develop their stage craft further.
Character development, acting skills coupled up with correct singing techniques make Musical Theatre students become the Triple Threat Dancers.
Cheer
Cheerleaders learn under the guidelines of the IASF (International All Star Federation) and have the opportunity to compete at numerous competitions locally and nationally. We currently have 10 different teams that compete and train at competition level & recreational levels across 5 different age groups starting at age 5.
Safety is our primary concern and so we have a specialised tumbling equipment including a full sized competition floor as well as fully qualified cheer coaches within all classes.
Performance Groups
Performance Groups are offered to students who show exceptional ability in Jazz, Hip Hop, Pom, Tap and Contemporary/Lyrical. These students participate in local dance performances and dance eisteddfods and competitions around Newcastle, Sydney and the AASCF Nationals once a year.
Students in performance groups must have a love and commitment for dance as they are required to attend multiple lessons per week to ensure high levels of technique and performance.
Lyrical / Contemporary
Lyrical & Contemporary dance is taught within classical ballet classes as it requires many classical techniques and skills as well as flexibility and control to enable students to correctly perform contemporary movements. Modern contemporary studies a variety of styles from Neo Classical, lyrical to African Contemporary.
Lyrical and Contemporary Performance teams are available via audition and require a strong classical technique to be selected.
Tap
Rhythmic beats of tap dancing is well known from Fred Astaire to the more current “Tap Dogs”.
Students study and undergo yearly examinations with the L.G.T.D.A (Les Griffith Tap Dancing Association) Syllabus, dancing to traditional and upbeat ‘Street Tap’ style.
Students who complete their tap exams also have the opportunity to gain their Teaching Certificate through LGTDA.
Boys ONLY!
At Attitude we know that boys learn differently but that doesn’t mean that we can’t cater to their style of learning.
We offer 2 classes each week open only to boys.
Boys only Hip Hop offers boys the chance to dance and develop skills and confidence in dance.
We also have a boys only tumble class which works on strength and conditioning alongside developing tumbling skills.
Solos & Duos
Students who show exceptional ability within different dance genres are offered the opportunity to participate in Solos &/or Duos at a competitive level.
Private lessons are taken weekly to develop the technical skill level & performance quality with cutting edge choreography preparing students for competitions and auditions.
Private Lessons
Attitude offers private lessons to students who want help achieveing new skills and higher technical skills.
The one-on-one training offers detailed training catering specifically to the needs of the student in order to achieve their goals.
Private lessons can be booked long or short term to achieve desired reults. These are most commonly used for exam preparation and developing new tumble skills.
Certificates in Dance and Dance Teaching
Students of Attitude Dance Centre use their dance society syllabus technical examination results (BBO Dance & LGTDA) towards VET technical competencies (with gap training) contained within the CUA Certificates in Dance qualifications provided directly by Australian Dance institute RTO 91600
